Creating an Inspiring Vision Statement

Where do you see your company ultimately going? You need to create a vision statement that conveys a message to everyone. So, in today’s blog post, I am sharing how to create an inspiring vision statement for your startup business or nonprofit organization. Let’s get started.

What is a Vision Statement?

Like a mission statement, a vision statement conveys the meaning and purpose of your company. However, vision statements are future-focused and should be created to inspire and direct long-term outcomes. So, your vision statement defines your company and its future. It is a foundational source that should be viewed regularly by your team and considered when doing any strategic planning.  To be an overall success, decisions and actions should be made that reflect your company’s mission, vision, and core values.  This can be accomplished through your company’s workshops and team meetings that are organized to encourage employees to identify ways for incorporating the mission, vision, and core values in their day-to-day tasks.

Creating Your Vision Statement

When creating your vision statement, aim to do the following:

  • Dream big! Take the limits off and focus your vision towards success.
  • Align it with your mission, core values, and goals.
  • Provide a clear idea of your company’s journey, projecting five to ten years in the future.
  • Use no more than two sentences composed in the present tense with clear, concise, and jargon-free wording.

Vision Statement Examples

Tesla: To create the most compelling car company of the 21st century by driving the world’s transition to electric vehicles.

Amazon: To be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online.

Linkedin: To create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce.

Google: To provide access to the world’s information in one click.

Uber: Smarter transportation with fewer cars and greater access. Transportation that’s safer, cheaper, and more reliable; transportation that creates more job opportunities and higher incomes for drivers.

McDonald’s: To be the best quick service restaurant experience. Being the best means providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness and value, so that we make every customer in every restaurant smile.
